After reading couple of blog posts and few articles on the web I think too many analysts, developers are confused with open source and free software. Yes open source code is available in many forms but somewhere they are own by someone making them proprietary (closed). So not “truly” free or open to use, distribute for your own need.

Looking at the series of patent lawsuit over the years just prove my point. Almost all major open source code have specific terms & conditions attach or part of a license agreement. It is not free lunch.

Strangely enough, we see a large amount of “free” open source supporters and developers are using Apple products. Even if they leverage significant amount open source code at big expense to their users who give it for free. Starting with their OS…

Apple is not alone. RedHat, Oracle Solaris, Oracle Linux, Google, Facebook are doing the same. Beside they need to make money somewhere to pay their employees…Bottom line very few interesting or major open source software is “truly” open and free.
